John DF Black promoting These Are the Voyages with Balok

I’m a HUGE Trekker. If you don’t know this about me than you’re probably new around here. It was my introduction to nerdom and I’ve literally been watching it since the day I was born. So when I saw a booth at Comikaze advertising a Star Trek book called These are the Voyages: TOS, Season One I was intrigued and I had to buy one of the signed copies.

About a month ago at Comikaze

Written and assembled by Marc Cushman, it was being hailed (pun intended) by many as the best Star Trek book ever written. Now, I’ve read many, many Star Trek books on topics ranging from physics to gagh, including reading each edition of the Star Trek Encyclopedia cover to cover and most of the continuing universe sagas. I’ve loved every one of them but this claim was something I had to experience for myself.

    Author Marc Cushman

I was not disappointed. If anything, I was enthralled. Quite simply, if you’re a Trekkie or a Trekker or a Trekken, you have to read this book. The forward is written by John D.F. Black, the last surviving Producer of Star Trek, and Mary Black, his lovely wife who was his secretary and who read every script and note that landed on John’s desk.

While at Comikaze I exchanged business cards with the lovely folks running the booth and when the opportunity arose to interview Marc, John and Mary on the podcast, Darcy and I jumped on it. What follows is one of the greatest moments that has happened to me since I started HNG back in 2010. The chance to discuss Star Trek with people who were there and with someone who is, in mine and I’m sure many other people’s opinions, one of the foremost authorities on the subject.

I really hope that you enjoy this podcast because I had soooo much fun recording it!

    Enjoy 🙂

And be sure to purchase These are the Voyages: TOS, Season One HERE.

These are the Voyages: TOS, Season Two will be out in February!

    HNG podcast 7

We make faces. It’s what we do.

Yay! It’s time for another exciting HNG podcast!

This week Darcy and I discuss the new TV show Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Darcy finishing up season 3 of Game of Thrones, and the upcoming movie Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse and the “apocatip” I did as a promotional piece.

Plus, I give a little insight into what it’s like to be a hot nerd girl. And, as always, there’s lots of fun random stuff throughout.

    Thanks for listening and enjoy!

  • HNG Podcast #6

    HNG podcast Sept 2013

What up, y’all! Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA. I seem to have very little free time these days. Soooooooper lame. I’ve got a few posts in the works though so expect some more activity very soon. In the meantime, Darcy and I managed to find some time for a podcast earlier this week and Hayden aka Geek Outlaw was kind enough to join us.

We talked about Ben Affleck as the new Batman, Darcy’s first impression of Game of Thrones, hipster Spidey, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and some other random nerdy tangents. At one point I mention the “Honest Trailer” for Star Trek (2009) and I say that I’ll post the link so HERE YOU GO. Watch it and weep tears of hilarity.

Big thanks to Darcy and first-timer Hayden. Hope you enjoy the podcast!

  • HNG Podcast: Doctor Who Edition

    IMG_1919

Its official, we have a 12th Doctor! Peter Capaldi will be taking over the reigns from Matt Smith this Christmas and, while I’ll be so sad to see Matt go, I’m unbelievably excited to see what Peter will bring to the fish finger and custard-laden table. Darcy and I ended up talking about the Doctor Who ‘verse almost exclusively during this week’s podcast and we had A LOT of fun doing it. We also went into Torchwood quite a bit and speculated over the identity of the mysterious black actor who was offered and turned down (?!?!!) the role before it was offered to Peter Capaldi.

    Allons-y!

And don’t forget to pre-order a copy of Forging Freedom, the anthology I contributed a sci-fi story to. The Anthology is being released in September and I’m taking pre-orders for anyone who is interested in getting it for the special pre-sale price of $15 which includes shipping. I’ll only be taking pre-orders until August 17th. I’ll get the copies by September 13th and I’ll ship it to you immediately following (I’ll also sign it unless you specify not to). In late September the book will be available on Amazon and in stores.

Stay tuned for a post with tons of pictures from 2013 San Diego Comic Con!

  • HNG Podcast – 2013 Comic Con Part 1

    DSC01033

I’ve been recovering from a gnarly Comic Con cold (stoopid germs) all week so I’m running a bit behind on my Comic Con wrap-up posts. Stay tuned for a post that’ll include pictures and more details on the panels, but in the meantime, Darcy and I recorded a podcast where I go through my entire Comic Con experience very, very quickly. Talking about 4 days worth of awesomeness in an hour is apparently too much for the blog to handle so we had to split it up into two posts.

In Part 1 we discuss meeting Brent Spiner again, Thursday’s Sherlock, X-Files, and Brave New Warriors panels in Ballroom 20, and Friday’s The World’s End, Veronica Mars, and Kick-Ass 2/Riddick panels in Hall H.

Check out Part 2 of the podcast coming right atcha!

  • HNG Podcast: Pre-Comic Con Confab Conversation…thing.

    hot-nerd-girl-batgirl-10

Welcome to the 3rd HNG podcast!
In this Pre-Com Con Con Con, Darcy and I discuss my plans for San Diego Comic Con including what costumes I’ll be wearing, what panels I’ll be camping out for, and what artists/booths I’ll be visiting. It’s a much briefer podcast, clocking in at approximately 24 minutes.

We’ll do a wrap-up podcast next week once the madness is over.

If you’re going to Comic Con and you see me, please be sure to say Hi! I will likely be dressed as:
    Thursday: Han Solo
    Friday: an HNG t-shirt
    Saturday: Captain Malcolm Reynolds
    Sunday: the 10th Doctor
I will also be spending some time each day (exact time TBD – I’ll tweet it and put it on the facebook page whenever I’m there) at Booth L-07 where my extremely talented artist friend (and HNG logo designer) Brett DeWall has a booth. I’ll have calendars and stickers and pins and all kinds of fun stuff. So, y’all come on down now, ya hear?
  • First HNG Podcast

Welcome to the very first HNG podcast! Yay! My friend Darcy (getting knocked out in the above picture) and I discussed a range of topics including, what it was like to meet Stan Lee at Amazing! Las Vegas Comic Con, Man of Steel, Independence Day 2, and a whole bunch of silliness in between. Since it was our first one and we thought it was pretty funny, we decided to keep the podcast raw and mostly unedited. Hopefully y’all have as much fun listening to it as we had recording it. We’ll be doing some more of these and I’m sure they will evolve and get even better (and/or crazier…ya never really know with us) over time. Thanks for listening!

  • Star Trek Captains Podcast (Ten Forward)

This is a very sleep deprived HNG coming to you from New York City. I’m here visiting my nieces and having a great time with them. Unfortunately for me, I usually go to bed around midnight-2:00am California time. Combine my sleeping habits with the time zone change and my body wants to go to sleep between 3:00am-5:00am New York time. Since I’m typically waking up around 8:00am that’s not working out too well for me. 5-hour Energy has become my new best friend.

It’s time for another podcast with the awesome guys over at World’s Best Podcast and their section dedicated to all things Star Trek – “Ten Forward.” This time around we discussed the Captains from Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. It made for a very entertaining discussion, let me tell you!

Oh, and we recorded this a while ago when I was very sick so my voice is all scratchy and Janeway-sounding. I was also suffering a bit from sick brain so it was difficult for me to put my thoughts together at times.  But considering how awful I felt, I thought I did pretty good.

Thanks to Mark and Isaac! It’s always fun to talk Trek with you! Listen to the podcast here:

Previous podcasts I’ve joined in on:

    Marvel Cinematic Universe

  • Marvel Cinematic Universe Podcast (World’s Best Podcast)

    It could happen….

About a week before The Avengers came out in theatres I participated in a World’s Best Podcast discussion about the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. We discussed Hulk (briefly), The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America. We also got into why the Marvel movies seem to be outdoing the DC movies (with the notable exception of the Christopher Nolan Batman films).

I was still sick when we did this so there are moments when my voice cracks and I sound like a 13 year old boy going through puberty. Since I typically dress like a 13 year old boy it was actually pretty fitting.

You might also notice that I got really excited and more talkative during the Thor part. What can I say? He’s my favorite comic book character 😉

Thanks to Isaac and the guys at World’s Best Podcast for another fabulous evening of nerd talk. It’s always a pleasure!  Hope you enjoy our discussion:
